Drew & Susan Gitlin

agent-photo The advantage Drew Gitlin offers clients can be defined in four words: He’s accustomed to winning. Drew honed his competitive edge in a series of high-stakes fields, from championship tennis to the worlds of entertainment and entrepreneurship. Today, he’s uniquely equipped to help his clients come out on top in an equally demanding game: today’s residential real estate market.

Drew got used to winning early on. A tennis phenom by his mid teens, he went on to become one of the top players in the US. He ranked among the top sixty worldwide in singles and the top forty in doubles, playing numerous times at Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open. When he hung up his racquet after five years on the Pro Tour, he launched his next career at Warner Bros. Reprise records, where his clients included Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Prince and many other major acts. After co-writing the Cuba Gooding movie Chill Factor, he took his skills to the business world, where he ran a mortgage banking company and a publicly traded animation company with rights to major league sports franchises.

Both Drew and his wife, Susan, earned their real estate licenses in 1986, and Susan swiftly proceeded to establish a successful career in the field. After selling real estate for over twenty years, Susan has experienced countless market fluctuations. “In this field, experience goes a long way,” she says. “Anyone can sell real estate during the upswings, but I’ve been fortunate to be a constant producer throughout my career, in every type of market.” Over the years, Susan has inked deals with such clients as Neve Campbell, Prince, Harold Ramis, JoAnna Kerns, Kathy Smith, Cindy Crawford and Sugar Ray Leonard, to name just a few.

In 2000, Drew and Susan joined forces, quickly earning a reputation as one of the most talented real estate doubles teams on the Westside. Susan’s strength lies in her ability to connect with all kinds of people. Her unending patience and low-key, unassuming and calming demeanor are priceless to people about to embark on the largest personal financial transaction of their lives. Clients naturally gravitate toward her, and come to rely on that quiet assurance during what can be a very stressful and emotional period. Drew’s strongest suit is negotiation. A master strategist with broad exposure to people and cultures around the world, he has superb powers of persuasion and finds it easy to relate to all parties involved. Those attributes are put to the test every day. “Real estate is very different than it used to be,” he says. “In this tumultuous time it’s never been more critical to have an absolutely cutting-edge, seasoned pro handle the process. Everything I’ve learned as a professional competitor is put to the test every day. The game plan, of course, is still to win. But to win for my client. It’s a challenge I love.”

While the Gitlins represent everything from condos to multimillion dollar properties, they’ve found that celebrity clients can add a different wrinkle. “You’re usually dealing with their lawyer or personal manager,” says Susan. “These representatives can bring tremendous insight to the negotiation—not to mention into the psyche of the client—and it’s critical to know how to listen and work with them effectively.” Not surprisingly for someone who’s been working with topflight coaches since his youth, Drew and Susan have a real estate coach. “In this ever-changing economy, what worked six months ago is useless today,” he says. “A skilled coach helps you stay right on the cutting edge, remain focused, and constantly improve your game.”

When you’re dealing with your single biggest investment, Drew and Susan are a great advantage to have in your court.
